Sale of flammable fuels like petrol in plastic bottles has been banned. Still, some petrol pumps in the city are giving petrol to those who bring bottles. However, some petrol pumps are following directions by not giving bottled petrol.

A scribe of this newspaper visited 8 petrol pumps in the city on Sunday. The staff at a petrol pump near Riddhi Siddhi Hall in Ulkanagari also told denied giving fuel in a bottle stating that they would be fined Rs 5,000. However, bottled petrol was given at Janaki petrol pump near Kalda Corner. The staff here did not even ask why petrol is needed. Bottled petrol was also refused at the petrol pump at Osmanpura circle and at a petrol pump in front of the railway station. Our representative then went to petrol pumps on Beed bypass. The employees of the Sarjitsingh Jabinda petrol pump immediately gave a bottle of petrol. Here too, he did not ask why they needed petrol in a bottle. The employees at the petrol pump near Deolai Chowk and near Bembde Hospital denied giving fuel in a bottle saying that there are CCTVs everywhere at the pumps. We can''t give petrol in a bottle. He also clarified that bottled petrol will not be available at Reliance''s petrol pump on the central bus stand road. In particular, a meeting of all petrol pump owners was recently held by Commissioner of Police Nikhil Gupta. He asked petrol pump operators to follow all the rules. Assistant CP Ashok Bankar had issued notices to the petrol pump owners under Section 149. However, it has come to light that petrol is being given in a bottle. Recently there were incidents of girls being set on fire by taking petrol from a bottle. This led to a ban on giving petrol in bottles by the police department.
