Aurangabad, Nov 11:

A Coronavirus infected prisoner, who ran away from Covid Care Centre at Kile Ark, five months ago, was arrested by local police from Mujeeb Colony today at 4.15 am. The accused Akram Khan Gayas Khan (30, resident of Jatwada) had come in a car to meet his wife and children staying with his in-laws.

The accused was cooling his heels in Harsul Jail after being held in murder of a hotelier, two years ago, in Cantonment area. It may be noted that there was a pandemic situation in the city due to Covid-19. Hence, 29 prisoners from the Harsul Jail were reported as Covid-19 patients during the check-up in June. As a result, the police shifted these prisoners, including Akram Khan for treatment in the above CCC. However, on June 8 at 11 pm, Akram and one another fled away from the campus.

Begumpura police registered an offence in this regard. Since then, the Crime Branch and Begumpura police were searching for these prisoners. Akram was dodging the cops since then, but the police held his accomplice after one week. Akram was hiding in Malegaon and would often come to meet his wife and children staying with his in-laws in Mujeeb Colony.

In the meantime, the cops learnt through an informer that Akram is coming to Aurangabad on Tuesday early morning. The police inspector Sachin Sanap and an assistant police inspector (special squad of the commissioner of police) Rahul Rode along with their teams laid down a trap since Monday night. On Tuesday at 4.15 am, Akram arrived at Mujeeb Colony in the car. The police immediately pounced on him. He tried to escape but was in vain as was held after a brief chase by the police.
