A worrying trend of missing women cases has emerged, with 245 women reported missing over the last three months from January. Official data shows that while 119 were traced, 128 remain unaccounted for.

In January 2025, 86 women were reported missing, of whom 46 were found, while 40 remain missing. December 2024 saw 91 cases, with 48 traced. In November 2024, 68 women were reported missing, with 26 found.

937 women missing in 2024

Looking at the entire year, the situation is even more concerning. A total of 937 women were reported missing in 2024, with authorities successfully locating 748. However,189 cases remain unresolved.

Authorities urge vigilance

Police have urged citizens to remain cautious and report any suspicious activities that might help trace missing individuals. While some cases are linked to personal disputes and elopements, concerns about human trafficking and organized crime are growing. Women's rights groups are calling for stricter laws, increased surveillance and better community engagement to prevent such incidents. Authorities are also working on strengthening digital tracking, expanding CCTV coverage, and running awareness campaigns to ensure women’s safety. Crime Branch PI Sandip Gurme said, "Many missing cases are resolved quickly. We are working on strengthening intelligence networks to tackle these cases effectively."
