Rs 2 cr loss in fire at Beed LIC office

Aurangabad, NOV 9: Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) office building on Ahmednagar road at Beed town in Marathwada caught fire at 3.30 am on Monday. The computers, important papers and furniture of about Rs 2 crore have been gutted. The reason for the fire is not yet known. The fire may have taken place due to short-circuit.

The two storey well-furnished LIC office building is located on Ahmednagar road. At about 4 am the smoke started coming out from the windows. The police telephoned the fire brigade after the smoke was reported.

Six fire brigade vehicles, three from Beed Municipal Council, one from police, one from agriculture produce market committee and one from Gevrai Municipal Council were deployed into service to extinguish the fire. After the continuous efforts for six hours the fire was extinguished. In all 40 computers, printers, furniture and important papers were burnt to ashes.

The firemen P A Dhayatadak, P M Kantode, H V Sasane, R Y Aadmane, L S Tekale, P G Maske, G V Dhokane and K V Jangle took efforts to extinguish the fire.

According to LIC official sources, the important papers were burnt, but the records are safe at the Mumbai head office. The superintendent of police R Raja visited the spot.
