Aurangabad, Dec 2:

In order to control the huge crowd at the Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) in Jadhavwadi, the market committee removed the retailers from the main road and allotted them space in the market complex. This made the roads less crowded on Wednesday.

Daily there is a huge crowd of retailers and consumers in the APMC to buy vegetables. The same crowd could lead to the second wave of Covid-19 to hit the city. The news in this regard was published in AurangabadFirst on Monday. The market committee hence decided to bring the crowd under control. Employees had taken to the streets since midnight on Tuesday to control the crowd. Farmers and retailers were barred from sitting on the streets of the market. Instead, they were placed in a large shed. The rest of the vendors and handcart owners were allowed to sell on one side of the empty street behind the market. Arrangements were made to park the vehicles in open space. This divided the crowds. During the lockdown, the municipal corporation had arranged for the sale of vegetables at various grounds in the city. But due to the opposition of the locals, the plan was hampered. Again the retailers came and sat in the Jadhavwadi APMC.

Success depends on implementation

From midnight on Tuesday to 8 am on Wednesday, the market committee staff were on alert. It will now depend on how many days the market committee implements and whether the sellers and consumers will be disciplined or not, the traders said.
