Aurangabad, Nov 25:

The Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) was inaugurated on Wednesday by district collector Sunil Chavan.

The laboratory received permission from Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in September 2019. The diagnosis for Covid-19 from VRDL was started on March 29 from the temporary TB laboratory of the Department of Microbiology. So far 1, 26, 610 RT PCR tests have been done from the VRDL. At present, RT PCR and antibody detection tests are being performed in this laboratory for the diagnosis of Covid- 19. GMCH dean Dr Kanan Yelikar said, The laboratory has a capacity of 2,000 tests per day and in the future, tests will be conducted to diagnose all viral diseases." Deputy dean Dr Kailash Zine, Dr Varsha Rote, head of VRDL laboratory Dr Jyoti Iravane, Dr Bharat Sonawane, special operations officer Dr Sudhir Chaudhary, medical superintendent Dr Suresh Harbade, Dr Madhuri Kulkarni, and others were present on the occasion.
