Aurangabad, April 8:

Work on Samruddhi expressway has been affected due to Covid-19. About 25 per cent of migrant workers have also gone to the villages for Holi. Many have still not returned to work. However, work is in progress as L&T has completed 86 per cent of work and mega engineering has completed 66 per cent of work.

Workers from West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh have gone to villages. Many have not returned due to fear Corona. Work is underway on the 112 km long stretch in the district. L&T company is working on the road from Maliwada and work from Jalna to Maliwada is underway by Mega engineering. Work on the flyover at the railway crossing near Lasur station is also underway. A mega block will have to be held for further progress of the flyover. While the work of Maliwada Junction is also in progress. Interchange junction is underway at Sawangi. But there has been some hindrance due to land acquisition. The contractor plans to complete the work of 3 out of 6 lanes from May 1 to facilitate traffic. The work of the tunnel is also being done by the same contractor and the work of one tunnel of 200 meters length out of 300 has been completed. Work on the second tunnel is also underway.

Vaccination of labourers

We have completed the vaccination of the workers working on this highway. Meanwhile, 25 workers of L&T were corona positive. Of them, 17 have recovered and returned to work, while 30 workers of Mega engineering were affected. Of them, 20 have recovered. The work is being affected as labourers are scared of corona, said superintendent engineer B P Salunke.
