Post a stunning IPL media rights auction in which the television and digital streaming rights for the world's richest cricket league were bought for a massive valuation of Rs. 48,390 crore, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has confirmed that the league is set to become a longer event over the years to come. Shah confirmed that the BCCI are in talks with the International Cricket Council (ICC) and other member nations to extend the window of the league. Describing the IPL has a marquee event in the cricket calendar, Shah confirmed that the number of matches in the league will increase in the future.

"We have been talking with our fellow Member Boards and the ICC about having a bigger dedicated window for the IPL. The IPL is a marquee event on the annual cricket calendar, and it is now only behind the NFL. The quality of cricket that you witness in IPL is world-class with senior international stars coming and playing with and against their Indian counterparts," said Shah to Cricbuzz."Not just cricketers but the IPL has some legends of the game now turning up as coaches. It is a fantastic platform and benefits everyone as the experience one gets here is priceless. There will be an increase in the number of games as we go ahead," he added. In the 2022 season, the IPL expanded to a 10-team tournament from one with eight teams. This led to the number of matches increasing to 74 from 60 earlier. In a few years, the expectation is that the IPL will either see 84 or even 94 matches per season.
