Will Somerville has been called up to the New Zealand squad for the third and final Test against Australia at the SCG. Somerville will replace fast bowler Trent Boult, who will return home after fracturing his hand. Somerville made his debut at the age of 34 last year against Pakistan and picked up seven wickets to bowl his side to a memorable win. Somerville will now be the third spinner in the squad the other ones being Mitchell Santner and Todd Astle.
"It's no secret the SCG pitch is one of the more spin-friendly in Australia," coach Gary Stead said. "Will offers something different to our two other spinners in the squad with his right arm offspin and height. The fact he's played a lot of cricket in Sydney during his career for New South Wales will also be helpful as we prepare for this final Test." Australia lead the 3 match series 2-0 with the final test to commence on January 3 in Sydney
