Shakib Al Hasan, the Bangladesh all-rounder, is unlikely to get a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the 2021 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). The upcoming CPL is set to be played from August 28 to September 19 in St Kitts and Nevis. Shakib returned to Jamaica Tallawahs, a franchise he represented in 2016 and 2017 where he won the title in his first stint, for the forthcoming edition of CPL. Akram Khan, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) cricket operation chairman, talked about fielding full-strength squads for the high-profile series. Khan, also a former Bangladesh cricketer, stated that the board is yet to take a decision on Shakib’s NOC.

“We have not taken any decision about it (NOC for CPL). When the time comes we can take a decision in this regard. We certainly want to play national games with our full-strength squad,” Khan was quoted as saying in Cricbuzz. Going forward, the board is expected to add a few clauses to the national cricketers’ contracts and hence, Khan’s wish might not get fulfilled. It’s been learned that the BCB will give the cricketers an option to state their availability for Bangladesh before taking part in foreign domestic leagues. The BCB started contemplating adding the clause after Shakib Al Hasan skipped the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka to play in the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) Shakib recently played in the ODI series against the Lankans in Mirpur and could only manage 19 runs with scores of 15, 0, and 4.
