Shubman Gill played a stunning straight drive off Shaheen Afridi during India’s clash against Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on Sunday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The elegant shot brought back memories of Sachin Tendulkar’s iconic straight drives.
Gill executed the shot in the seventh over of India’s run chase. Afridi had dismissed Rohit Sharma earlier but the Indian opener stood firm. He played a full delivery on off stump with perfect timing and sent the ball racing past the bowler for a boundary.
Gill has been in outstanding form and was recently ranked the No. 1 batter in ODIs. He scored an unbeaten century against Bangladesh in India’s opening match of the tournament.
India comfortably chased down Pakistan’s target of 241 runs. Virat Kohli led the innings with an unbeaten 100. Shreyas Iyer scored 56 and added a crucial partnership with Kohli. Kuldeep Yadav was the standout bowler and took three wickets.
India’s second consecutive win in the tournament has brought them closer to a spot in the semi-finals.
