Increasing covid cases in Maharashtra has raised concerns of the state authorities and has put a pressure on the health system. The massive increase in the number of cases has poses a major challenge to the health system in the state.

Amid rising cases, Maharashtra government is considering locdown imposition in the state to curb the spread of the disease. There is no alternative to lockdown to stem the new wave of corona, without which the number of cases is difficult to control, a clear role was taken by the expert doctors of the task force in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Vijay Wadettiwar, a minister in the state government, has issued a stern warning over the growing number of corona cases and lockdown. Regarding the increasing covid cases and lockdown, Wadettiwar said that Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray was considering a seven-day lockdown in the state against the backdrop of increasing number of patients.

But I feel the need for a two-week lockdown. Also, if there is no strict lockdown in the state and people keep leaving their homes without fear, the death toll in the state will keep increasing.

COVID-19 cases continued to increase at an alarming rate in Maharashtra with as many as 63,294 new infections and 349 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the state health department said on Sunday, taking the total positive cases in the state to 34,07,245.There are now 5,65,587 active cases in the state. A total of 27,82,161 recoveries and 57,987 deaths have been reported in the state so far.Out of the total cases, 91,100 were reported from Mumbai, 74,335 from Thane, and 1,09,590 from Pune.
