Maharashtra Budget Session 2026 Begins With Tribute to Former Deputy CM Ajit Pawar
The Maharashtra Assembly Budget Session 2026 began on Monday, February 23, with a special tribute to former Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis delivered an emotional speech, calling the late Ajit Pawar a close friend, mentor and unmatched administrator.
While addressing the State Assembly on the first day of the budget session, CM Fadnavis said he never imagined he would have to move a condolence motion for Ajit Pawar. He also introduced Sunetra Pawar to the House as Deputy Chief Minister.

Fadnavis said Ajit Pawar inspired not only him but generations of leaders through his work ethic and decisiveness. He added that Pawar would have presented his 12th consecutive state budget this year and was poised to create history by presenting a 13th next year, a record that will now remain unfulfilled.
Fadnavis also praised Ajit Pawar’s ability to take tough and sometimes unpopular decisions, particularly while handling the crucial finance portfolio. Calling him a stable and visionary leader, he said, “He was 11 years senior to me, truly a ‘Dada’ in every sense,” underlining their personal bond.
