The Maharashtra Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, met on Wednesday, April 22 and took several key decisions across sectors in the state. A brief note on the decisions was released by the Chief Minister’s Office, with detailed announcements expected later.

The Cabinet approved the Maharashtra State Compressed Biogas (CBG) Policy, 2026. Under the policy, coordination committees will be set up in each district of Maharashtra, and biogas projects will be implemented on a public-private partnership (PPP) and hybrid annuity basis. A provision of Rs 500 crore has been made for the current year. The policy aims to promote environmentally friendly solid waste management and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

In the education sector, the government decided that teachers in seven model colleges will receive basic pay in line with University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines. These teachers will also be given additional weightage in recruitment for posts under the Higher and Technical Education Department.

The state cabinet also approved the allocation of 42.55 hectares of land to the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) for the development of an IT park at Nagewadi in Satara district. The project is expected to boost the IT sector in the region and create employment and business opportunities.

Another decision relates to the restructuring of premiums for conversion from Occupier Class II to Occupier Class I, in accordance with maximum landholding limit rules. Approval has been granted to issue a notification in this regard.

Proposal To Rename KEM Hospital

Separately, BJP MLA and minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha has written to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), seeking the renaming of King Edward Memorial Hospital. He has proposed the name “Kaushalya Shrestha Eklavya Smarak Hospital”.

This is the second time Lodha has raised the demand. The proposal may trigger debate, as similar suggestions in the past have led to controversy. Lodha has argued that the hospital’s current name dates back to the British era and should be changed.
