Maharashtra former health minister Dr. Deepak Sawant has tested covid-19 positive. Notably, he had taken two doses of the coronavirus Covishield vaccine. He told Lokmat that he received a call from the hospital that his reports have come back positive after which he was admitted to Criticare Hospital in Andheri East. Meanwhile, he has appealed to those who have come in contact with him in the last eight days to get tested.

Sawant had taken Covishield jabs in January 16 and second dose in February 16. A month ago, he had 268 antibodies in his body. However, he opined that ICMR should set criteria for the need to take booster doses due to re-infection of the corona.

Dr Deepak Sawant has done scholarly writing in the first and second wave of Corona. The book launching ceremony of 'Malam Corona' was to be held at the hands of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday 21st June at 5 pm at Varsha Bungalow. However, he said that the program was canceled as tested covid positive.
