Palghar Tragedy: Truck Driver Dies, Cleaner Injured After Fire Erupts in Vehicle on Mumbai–Ahmedabad Highway

Palghar: In unexpected turn of event a tempo caught fire on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway in Maharashtra’s Palghar district. In this incident a 28-year old driver burn to death, while cleaner sustain serious injuries. This incident occurred on Tuesday, March 2, 2026 around 10:30pm, while truck was traveling to Gujarat-bound lane near Somta.

As per the PTI report, Palghar rural police a tempo was in motion when a fire broke out, quickly engulfing the entire vehicle.  Cleaner Gurusewak Singh (38), also a resident of Punjab, managed to escape the burning vehicle but sustained serious burns, he said.

An injured cleaner was taken to a sub-district hospital, while the driver's body was sent to a government hospital for autopsy, according to Palghar rural police. The fire disrupted highway traffic for hours as firefighters extinguished the blaze. Police have registered a case of accidental death and are investigating the fire's cause.
