As the COVID-19 is gripping the city day by day, Vasai MLA Hitendra Thakur received his first dose of COVID-19 vaccine at Virar rural hospital. In a tweet he urged everyone to register themselves and get vaccinated. "Took the first dose of #Covid19Vaccine today at Maharashtra Government's Rural Hospital, Virar. I thank all the doctors and staff of the facility. Except for the needle prick, the vaccine is safe and we urge people to get registered and vaccinated," Thakur wrote in a tweet.

During the second-phase of the inoculation drive that started on March 1, people aged 60 years and above and those in the 45-59 age group with specific comorbidities are being administered the vaccine. Earlier, Mumbai Mayor, Kishori Pednekar, President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan got themselves inoculated against COVID-19.
