The winter session of Maharashtra state legislature began today. Due to corona pandemic the winter session this year will be for two days only wherein 10 bills and six ordinances will be tabled. Usually the winter session is held in Nagpur over a span of two weeks but this year due to the Corona pandemic, it is being held in Mumbai for just two days.

On first day of the session supplementary statement of expenditure for 2020-21 was tabled in both houses of the legislature by the state government. The state government also tabled Shakti Bill, pertaining to the prevention of incidents of violence and atrocities against women and children in the state. The Shakti Bill has been drafted on line of Hyderabad's Disha Act.

The winter session will focus on passage of supplementary demands and see tabling of bills related to the Shakti Act that aims to curb crime against women and children. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anil Parab said on the first day the tabling of ordinances, bills and supplementary demands will be taken up for discussion and on the next day they would be taken for approval.
