An Air India flight AI-2744 from Kochi to Mumbai has experienced a runway excursion during the landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Monday morning, July 21. The incident occurred during the landing at the CSMIA after the touchdown due to heavy rainfall in the city resulted skiddy surfaced on runway. However, all passengers were reported be safe.

Sources to the news agency PTI told the PTI that the flight overshot the runway while landing at CSMIA from Kochi on Monday morning.

The aircraft taxied safely to the gate, and all passengers and crew members have since disembarked from the aircraft, according to the Air India spokesperson told news agency ANI. The aircraft has been grounded for checks.

An A320 aircraft skidded off the main runway 27 due to heavy rains. According to The Times of India, the plane ran out of the track into an unpaved area and then onto the taxiway before coming to a halt. The aircraft also received some minor damage. However, the passengers are reported to be safe, and the plane was parked, and all passengers disembarked. 

The spokesperson of CSMIA said confirmed the incident saying that "there are minor damages reported to the airport's primary runway, 09/27. In order to ensure continuity of operations, the Secondary Runway 14/32- has been activated."

The incident occurred at 9:27 am on Monday when Air India flight AI-2744 landed from Kochi. The A320 aircraft (VT-TYA) touched down on Runway 27 but failed to remain on the runway during deceleration. Sources told TOI that a team from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is at the airport to investigate the matter.

Airbus A320 images have emerged from the Mumbai Airport. The first image shows a clump of grass stuck into part of the aircraft. In the second image, we can notice that one of its wings also got fractured. In the third image, we can see significant damage near the first engine. However, at this time, LokmatTimes.com cannot confirm the nature of the damage or which engine it is.
