A deeply disturbing incident has emerged from Bihar’s Nalanda district, shocking people across the region and raising serious concerns about humanity and intolerance. The tragic episode took place in Sakrawan village under the Asthawan police station limits, where a 12-year-old boy was allegedly beaten to death over a lemon. Following the brutal killing, tension gripped the village and the entire locality was turned into a high-security zone amid fears of further violence. Police personnel were deployed in large numbers as angry residents gathered on the streets demanding strict punishment for the accused involved in the horrific crime against the minor child.
According to reports, the victim, identified as Shubham Kumar alias Jhagdu, was playing with his friends near his house when the incident occurred. During the game, the boy reportedly plucked a lemon from a tree located at the residence of neighbour Gorakh Miya. Enraged over the minor issue, the accused allegedly attacked the child with sticks and rods. The assault caused severe head injuries and heavy bleeding. Family members rushed the injured boy to a nearby hospital for treatment, but he died on the way due to excessive blood loss. The shocking killing triggered widespread anger and emotional outrage among villagers and relatives of the deceased child.
As news of the child’s death spread across the village, hundreds of furious residents gathered and marched towards the accused’s house shouting slogans demanding revenge. The enraged crowd allegedly vandalised several homes and damaged vehicles during the protest. When police personnel attempted to control the mob and restore order, the protesters reportedly began pelting stones at officers, leading to injuries among several policemen. With the situation rapidly escalating and slipping out of control, security forces were forced to conduct a lathi-charge to disperse the violent crowd. Panic spread across the area as tension continued to rise, prompting authorities to tighten security arrangements throughout the village.
In view of the worsening situation, police from nearly 60 police stations across Patna and Nalanda districts, along with Quick Response Team (QRT) personnel and more than 500 security staff, were deployed in the affected village. District Magistrate Kundan Kumar and Superintendent of Police Bharat Soni personally monitored the law and order situation to prevent further unrest. Intelligence agencies were also activated to ensure communal harmony remains intact and to avoid the spread of rumours or provocation. Authorities confirmed that 12 members of the accused family have been arrested so far. Meanwhile, forensic experts collected evidence from the crime scene, while police continued conducting flag marches to maintain peace.
