Mumbai Airport: 59 Flights Cancelled at CSMI Airport Amid Middle East Conflict

Flight services at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport experienced continued disruption on March 11 as several flights were cancelled, affecting both incoming and outgoing operations. A total of 59 flight movements were called off during the day, impacting travellers and airline schedules. These disruptions are being linked to increasing uncertainty in global aviation due to the intensifying conflict in the Middle East. Airport authorities confirmed that both domestic and international passengers were affected as airlines adjusted their operations in response to the changing geopolitical situation. Despite the challenges, airport officials said airlines are closely coordinating to minimise inconvenience for passengers travelling through Mumbai.

Airport movement data showed that out of the 59 cancelled Air Traffic Movements (ATMs), 27 were arriving flights while 32 were scheduled departures. Although the cancellations caused inconvenience to travellers, the figures indicated a slight improvement compared to March 10. The airport had recorded a significantly higher number of disruptions, with 92 flight movements cancelled in total, on March 10. Of these, 30 were incoming flights, and 62 were departures. The reduction in cancellations on Wednesday provided a degree of relief for passengers and airport authorities, though airline operators remain cautious while planning flight schedules amid ongoing global developments.

The current disruptions are largely being attributed to the escalating tensions in the Middle East, a region that plays a crucial role in international aviation routes. Many long-haul flights travelling between Asia, Europe and parts of Africa pass through this air corridor, making it strategically important for global air traffic. With growing concerns about security and airspace safety in the region, several airlines have begun reassessing their operational plans. Aviation experts note that even limited conflict in such a key aviation corridor can quickly impact global flight schedules and cause delays, diversions or cancellations across multiple international airports.

As tensions continue to rise involving Iran, Israel and the United States, airlines operating international routes are actively reviewing their flight paths and schedules. Safety concerns related to possible military activity and restricted airspace have prompted some carriers to temporarily suspend routes, reroute aircraft, or cancel services. Aviation regulators and airline operators are closely monitoring the evolving situation and may implement additional changes depending on developments in the region. Travellers flying from Mumbai have been advised to verify their flight status with airlines before leaving for the airport, as schedules may be revised at short notice.
