Mumbai Traffic Update: Diversions Announced in Mahim Amid Ongoing Road Concretisation Work; Check Details Here
The Mumbai Traffic Police on Friday announced a temporary diversion in the Mahim locality owing to the ongoing road concretisation drive across the city. According to officials, excavation and cement laying work has commenced in the area as part of infrastructure upgrades. Authorities stated that vehicular flow will be regulated to facilitate the repairs and to maintain public safety. Commuters have been advised to expect changes in regular routes and minor delays. The department clarified that the measures are precautionary and intended to ensure that construction activities proceed smoothly without posing risks to motorists or pedestrians in the vicinity.
Officials said a 100-metre portion of Mogul Lane, stretching from Gangavihar Junction to Varadaraj Adya Marg, is presently undergoing repairs. Though the road has a width of nine metres, a significant section of the carriageway is occupied by digging and barricading activity, leaving very little space for vehicles. The narrowing of the usable stretch has made regular traffic movement challenging. With construction equipment and safety barriers placed along the site, motorists are finding it difficult to pass through the area, prompting authorities to step in with a regulated traffic plan to minimise inconvenience and maintain order.
As per an official notification, nearly 4.5 metres of the carriageway will be dug up for cement concreting. Additionally, underground facilities including gas pipelines, service ducts and MTNL cable lines cover approximately 2.5 metres along the northern footpath. With these installations further reducing available driving space, only a narrow strip of road remains open. Given the severe constraint, two-way vehicular flow cannot be sustained. To avoid bottlenecks, accidents and hardship to commuters, the traffic department has enforced a temporary order to streamline vehicle movement during the construction phase.
The modified traffic system will come into effect from 12.01 am on February 28, 2026 and continue until midnight on March 29, 2026. Throughout this duration, vehicular entry on Mogul Lane between Gangavihar Junction and Varadaraj Adya Marg will remain restricted. However, motorists travelling from Varadaraj Adya Marg Junction towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Marg may continue along Mogul Lane to reach their destinations. Drivers near Natural Ice Cream - T.H. Kataria Marg can turn left onto Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Marg and proceed ahead. Authorities have urged citizens to obey diversion signs and cooperate with personnel.
In a separate advisory, the Mumbai Traffic Police stated that the Khar Subway in Santacruz (East) will remain closed to vehicles during night hours from February 27 to March 1, 2026. The shutdown is necessary to facilitate the installation of a new height restriction barrier, including the placement of supporting pillars and girders. The subway will stay inaccessible daily between midnight and 5 am within the specified dates. The work falls under the Vakola Traffic Division, and officials cautioned that construction machinery and materials could obstruct traffic if vehicles are permitted.
Motorists who usually pass through Khar Subway have been advised to opt for alternative routes during the restricted hours. Commuters can divert via the Milan Subway or use the Milan Flyover to bypass the closure. Traffic authorities explained that these adjustments are essential to prevent congestion and ensure worker safety while the barrier installation is underway. Citizens have been encouraged to plan their travel schedules in advance and remain patient throughout the execution of the project, which aims to improve long-term infrastructure management and reduce future vehicular hazards in the area.
