Mumbai Tragedy: Delivery Boy Killed in Car Door Accident in Kandivali

A 31-year-old delivery worker associated with Zomato lost his life in a tragic road accident in Kandivali West after a sudden “dooring” incident led to a fatal collision. According to police, the mishap occurred around 7 pm on Wednesday on Link Road when the victim, identified as Tuvankumar Maheshwar Yadav, was carrying out his delivery duties. He had reportedly left his residence at approximately 6 pm to begin work. While riding along the busy stretch, a parked car’s door was abruptly opened, causing him to lose balance and fall directly into the path of an oncoming tanker, which ran over him.

Following the incident, the Charkop police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against both individuals involved, citing negligence as the primary cause. The car driver, identified as Aftab Alam from Govandi, allegedly opened the vehicle door without checking for oncoming traffic or using mirrors. Meanwhile, the tanker driver, Anantray Shivnayak Yadav from Wadala, has been accused of driving in a rash and negligent manner, contributing to the fatal outcome. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the sequence of events and assess accountability in the case.

The accident has once again highlighted the dangers of “dooring” incidents, which pose serious risks to two-wheeler riders and cyclists in urban areas. Experts often recommend the use of the ‘Dutch Reach’ technique, where drivers open the car door with the hand farthest from it, compelling them to turn and check for approaching traffic. This simple yet effective habit can significantly reduce such accidents. The tragic incident occurred on March 25, serving as a grim reminder of the importance of road safety awareness and responsible behavior among motorists.
