Mumbai Weather Forecast: City to Get Respite From Heat As IMD Predicts Light Rain and Thunderstorms on These Days

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted light rain along with thunderstorms in Mumbai from Tuesday, March 31, 2026. This could give respite from sweltering heat and heatwave conditions in the city. 

Mumbai and its surrounding regions, including Thane and Palghar, reported at least four heatwave days in March 2026. IMD had also warned of severe heat wave conditions on March 4 and 5 and later on March 9, 10, and 13, also on March 23. 

On March 10, the capital city of Maharashtra broke a five-year-old record for the hottest day of the month with the temperature reaching 40 degrees Celsius, reported by IMD's Santacruz observatory. On March 28, the city recorded nearly 33 degrees Celsius at the Santacruz and Colaba centres of IMD.

The city witnessed clear and sunny skies with humid weather on Monday morning, March 30. At around 9.30 am the temperature was at 28 degrees Celsius, while the afternoon temperature is expected to be 34 degrees Celsius today.

However, temperatures are likely to witness a significant dip as the IMD has forecasted likely rainfall and thunderstorms in the city and suburbs from Tuesday, March 31, till Thursday, April 2. The daytime temperature is expected to drop significantly after the rain. 

IMD has also issued a yellow alert for Marathwada, Madhya Maharashtra, and Vidarbha, until April 1, as rain with thundershowers and gusty winds is expected until April 1.

Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning, light to moderate rainfall & gusty winds (30-40kmph) at isolated places of Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudug, Dhule, Nandurbar, Ghats of Pune, Ghats of Kolhapur, Kolhapur. 

Orange alert for Jalgaon, Nasik, Ghats of Nasik, Ahilyanagar, Pune, Satara, Sangli, Sholapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Bee, Hingoli for April 31 thunderstorm accompanied by lightning, gusty winds ( 50- 60kmph), hail at isolated places.
