Mumbai Police’s Kasturba Marg Police Station has registered an FIR against three women for allegedly defaming a minor girl by circulating obscene and objectionable messages on social media. One of the accused has been arrested from Gujarat, while efforts are underway to trace the remaining accused.
According to the complainant, on April 19, 2025, derogatory and explicit comments targeting the minor were posted in a WhatsApp group. The messages reportedly questioned the girl’s character and were intended to malign her reputation in society.
As per the FIR, the accused deliberately spread misleading and false information to damage the victim’s image. The police have registered the case under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Taking swift action, the police arrested one of the accused from a hotel in Gujarat, where she had been absconding for the past 10 days. The search for the other accused is ongoing.
The investigating team is currently examining digital evidence, including chat records, messages, and other electronic data, to determine whether there was a larger conspiracy behind the act.
In a significant development, it has also come to light that one of the accused allegedly threatened police officials with dire consequences, including forcing them to remove their uniforms, further escalating the seriousness of the case.
Police officials have stated that the investigation is being conducted from all possible angles, and further action against the remaining accused is expected soon.
