Pollution control and environment conservation are important aspects in the concept of ''Smart City'' and to fulfill these needs cycling can become vital option in future.

To give an encouragement to cycling, a ''dedicated cycle track'' will come up in the city. The Housing and Urban Development Ministry of the Central Government has decided to make some cities in the country ''Cycle Friendly''. As many as 105 cities including Nagpur have participated in this contest the result of which would be declared before December. For that Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Associaiton has taken the initiatives. In first phase 18- km dedicated cycle track will be created as pilot project. While elaborating the concept project in-charge Dr Pranita Wath-Umredkar said the cycle track site has been finalised as per project and the designing has also been completed. A survey was conducted so that maximum citizens should participate in the project. Cyclists, Police department, mobility machinery, Nagpur Municipal Corporation, engineering colleges, and different NGOs are part of this project. There would be 16 stations on 18-km track so that the cyclists can park their cycles there while going at particular place. The track would have markings and special arrangement will be made for commuters and the tri-cycles of physically challenged people. Dr Pranita Umredkar said people have been using bicycles for long time. From them opinions were taken regarding the problems they face while riding bi-cycles, reasons behind not riding bi-cycles, problems women faces, parking and road problems, pollution etc.
