Lucknow, Sep 14 In a shocking incident, an accused fled from the police custody when the vehicle he was being taken in, stopped for refuelling at a petrol pump in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri district.

The incident, which happened on Sunday, was caught on a CCTV camera at the petrol pump. The CCTV footage showed the accused in a white shirt and brown pants being chased by the police personnel.

The accused had been booked under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act). The police have launched a massive search to arrest him.

Lakhimpur Kheri Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Arun Kumar Singh told reporters, "Police force from three police stations has been deployed and combing is being done. I believe we will catch him soon. The probe will be done as far as the negligence of the police is concerned. Strict action will be taken against the guilty."
