Several people were feared dead after an Air India plane AI-171 bound for London with 242 passengers and 12 crew members on board crashed near Ahmedabad Airport in Gujarat on Thursday, June 12. Thick black smoke was seen rising from the crash site. Rescue teams have reached the spot. The incident occurred shortly after the plane took off from Ahmedabad Airport.

According to reports, the Air India aircraft, which took off at 1.31 pm on Thursday, was en route from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad to the Gatwick Airport in London and crashed near Meghaninagar, approximately 15 kilometres from the airport. Immediately after the crash, seven fire brigade vehicles reached the site and began firefighting operations.

BSF and NDRF teams have been dispatched to the accident site. Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the crash. The crashed plane is said to be Boeing's 11-year-old 787 Dreamliner aircraft.
