Budget 2026 Live Updates: Custom Duty Exemption on Microwave Ovens, Says FM Nirmala Sitharaman
For the record 9th consecutive time, the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is presenting Budget 2026-27 today (February 1). Perhaps this is the first time that the Budget is being presented on a weekend, that is, on Sunday. She also surpasses P Chidambaram and Pranab Mukherjee to become the second-highest budget presenter in Indian history, with all nine budgets delivered consecutively since 2019 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Union Budget is expected to show a path on how the Indian government has planned to protect itself from Trump's 50% tariffs and the ongoing global trade war. The global economy is facing unprecedented uncertainty as Donald Trump's administration continues to impose tariffs on several countries. It is important to see what new income tax slabs will be presented by the Union government for the financial year 2026, and interesting to see if there are any tax relief measures for common people.
