A farmer and his wife have died after they, along with their three teenage children, allegedly consumed a poisonous substance in a suspected suicide attempt in Vadali town of Gujarat's Sabarkantha district, police reported on Sunday. The devastating incident unfolded on Saturday morning when the family of five began vomiting. Prompted by concerned neighbors, an ambulance was called, and the couple, along with their two sons and daughter, were rushed to a private hospital for immediate medical attention, according to Vadali police station’s sub-inspector Raviraj Joshi.

As their condition worsened, the family was subsequently transferred to the civil hospital in Himmatnagar in the afternoon. Tragically, the farmer succumbed in the evening, and his wife passed away in the early hours of Sunday.

The man was a farmer, and the exact reason why the family took the extreme step is not yet clear. The matter is currently under investigation,” the official said. The deceased have been identified as Vinu Sagar (42) and his wife Kokilaben (40). Their three children – 19-year-old daughter and sons aged 17 and 18 — are undergoing treatment and in stable condition, the official said. The Vadali police registered a case of accidental death and further probe being conducted into it, he said.
