Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit to Ukraine's capital Kyiv in August this year for the first time since Russia-Ukraine war begins since 2022, sources told NDTV.

Prime Minister Modi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Italy. Both leaders hug each other as the prestigious meet. Zelensky had congratulated PM Modi and invited him to visit the war-torn country after he won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections for the third time.

PM Modi had spoke to Zelenskyy in March this year on phone call. Both leaders discussed ways to strengthen the India-Ukraine partnership and reiterated the nation's people-centric approach and calls for dialogue and diplomacy for the resolution of the ongoing conflict. The Prime Minister said India would continue to do everything within its means to support a peaceful solution.

Ever since the war began, India has maintained it can only be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. The Prime Minister has said, "India is ready to contribute to any peace efforts." PM Modi also visited Moscow earlier this month for two days.

Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra said that during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, he took a strong stance on the issue of Indian nationals being recruited into the Russian army. The Russian government has assured an "early discharge" of these Indians from the army service.
