Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday chosen by the Uttarakhand BJP legislative party to be the eleventh Chief Minister of the state. Dhami is a member of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly from the Khatima constituency in Udham Singh Nagar district. The change of guard came following the resignation of Tirath Singh Rawat from the post.

"My party has appointed a common worker, son of an ex-serviceman, who was born in Pithoragarh to serve the state. We'll work together for people's welfare. We accept the challenge of serving people with the help of others, in a short time span," said Pushkar Singh Dhami after being appointed as CM.

We're happy with this decision. We got a young leader. We'll win going to win 2022 Assembly elections with a better margin, said BJP MP Ajay Bhatt after Pushkar Singh Dhami appointed as State BJP legislature party leader.

Trivendra Singh Rawat took oath as Uttarakhand Chief Minister after the 2017 Assembly polls. However, he tendered his resignation from the CM post after some BJP MLAs complained to the party's central leadership about his working style. Rawat resigned amid uncertainty over bypolls in Uttarakhand, which will face assembly elections early next year.

Tirath Singh Rawat, who is the Lok Sabha MP from Pauri Garhwal, took over as the Chief Minister on March 10 this year. To continue as the chief minister, he had to be elected to the state assembly within six months since he was not an MLA.
