Ramadan Crescent Moon Sighted in India, First Fast on February 19
The crescent moon for most awaited of the month of Ramadan, has been sighted in parts of India, including in Bihar and Assam, as confirmed by the Chand committees on Wednesday, February 18. Therefore, the holy month of Ramzan 1447 AH has begun today, and Taraweeh (night prayers) will be performed after Isha prayers in all mosques.
The moon was first sighted in Bihar and then Assam, according to ABP News. Qazi Rizwan Nadawi of Imarat-e-Sharia said there have been reports of moon sighting from various places. “We are examining the claims, after which an official announcement will be made,” Nadawi told ABP News.
For those who have not seen the crescent moon, wait for 10 minutes to get fully dark and look towards the western horizon. The moon will appear very thin in the lower part of the sky.
