At least two workers were killed in an explosion at a private firecracker factory in Mayadevanpatti village in Srivilliputhur block, Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday, August 14.

Due to the explosion a fire broke out in which two workers trapped in the factory and died due to burn injuries. The deceased was identified as P Mariappan and P Muthumurugan, both aged 45 and belonging to Chidambarapuram in Vellur in Virudhunagar district, as reported by news agency PTI.

Expressing anguish, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin conveyed his condolences to the kin of the deceased and announced a solatium of Rs 3 lakh to the families of each of the two dead workers and an assistance of Rs 1 lakh each to the two injured persons.
