Telangana police on Tuesday booked a local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader for flouting COVID-19 lockdown rules after he organised a dance party on the occasion of his granddaughter's birthday.

Telangana police on Tuesday booked a local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader for flouting COVID-19 lockdown rules after he organised a dance party on the occasion of his granddaughter's birthday.

As per M Narayana, Superintendent of Police (SP), Vikarabad, the party was organised on the intervening night of June 11 and June 12 and a case was registered on June Monday in the matter.

"A Hijra (transgender) dance was organised on intervening night of June 11 and June 12 and a case was registered on Monday against the responsible person under sections 188, 290, 269 of Indian Penal Code, 51 (B) of Disaster Management Act, section 3 of Epidemic Disease Act, and section 34 (a)and 15(4) of TS Excuse Act 1968," the SP said.

The case was filed after the video of the incident was posted on social media.

Keeping in view the number of COVID cases in some districts of the state, Telangana has extended COVID-induced lockdown for another till June 19.
