According to a special alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the weather in Uttarakhand may turn severe over the next 24 hours. Since Saturday, the state has experienced frequent weather changes, with alternating spells of sunshine and cloud cover continuing throughout the day.

The IMD has warned of thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rainfall accompanied by wind speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour at isolated places across several districts, including Almora, Bageshwar, Chamoli, Champawat, Haridwar, Nainital, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, Udham Singh Nagar and Uttarkashi. Authorities have urged residents to take precautions and remain in safe locations.

The forecast also predicts rain across all districts of Uttarakhand today. According to the IMD, widespread rainfall is expected in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, and Chamoli, while other districts may receive scattered showers. A yellow alert for thunderstorms and lightning has been issued in 11 districts, excluding Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar. Further rainfall is also predicted on April 21 and 22 in four to five districts of the state.
