Demolition of unsafe buildings started in sinking Joshimath

The work of demolishing 'unsafe' buildings due to landslides in Uttarakhand's Joshimath began on Saturday as the weather improved. Due to snowfall and rain in various parts of Uttarakhand on Friday, the cold has increased, causing temporary relief camps.

Chamoli District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana said, 'Unsafe hotels and houses in Joshimath have been temporarily closed due to bad weather.' And 269 families were given temporary accommodation.

'Providing relief to the affected people in Joshimath is currently the top priority of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami,' an official release said here.

According to the release, 76 families have been supplied with heaters and blowers, 110 people with warm clothes, 175 with hot water bottles, 516 with woolen caps, 280 with warm socks and 196 with shawls.

The release said that 771 people have been supplied with food grains, 601 with blankets and 114 with daily use items. Joshimath is known as the gateway to famous pilgrimage sites like Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib and Auli, famous for international skiing.
