India sucessfully tests Agni-5 nuclear capable ballistic missile having range of 5000 km

India on Thursday night successfully conducted a night test of Agni-5 nuclear-capable ballistic missile capable of hitting targets at a range of over 5,000 km.

This test was conducted from Odisha-based Abdul Kalam Iceland. The weight of this missile is 50 thousand kilograms and its length is 7.5 meters, while its diameter is 2 meters. Its speed is Mach 24, ie 24 times the speed of sound.

This missile can carry a nuclear warhead of up to 1500 kg.

This missile has a three-stage rocket booster, which is fired by solid fuel. Capable of hitting targets up to 5,000 kilometers with much greater accuracy.

The government has consistently stated that the success of the Agni-5 test is in keeping with India's stated goal of being a 'credible minimum deterrent' which underlines its commitment to 'no first use'. According to sources before the inspection, the authorities issued a notification.
