Lucknow, Nov 22 The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has decided to attach the property of those found guilty in cases of manufacturing spurious liquor.

The Chief Minister has instructed officials to seize the properties of those involved in the sale of spurious liquor. The properties would be auctioned and the amount generated from it would be used to provide support to the families of the victims.

He has also directed that the guilty should be booked under the Gangster Act.

The decision comes after six people died and at least 16 were admitted to a hospital after consuming toxic liquor in a village in Prayagraj district.

The tragedy took place in the Amilia village on Friday night when the victims consumed country liquor from a government-licensed shop.

The husband-wife duo who ran the liquor shop have been arrested.

Additional Chief Secretary, Excise Sanjay Bhoosreddy said that the district excise officer Sandeep Bihari Modwel and some other excise officials have been suspended and departmental action was being initiated against them.

He further said very strict action under the Criminal Laws and also under the Excise Laws was being taken against all the concerned persons, including the licensee, Shyam Babu Jaiswal of the Amilia village.

Seven people have died and at least 15 are admitted to a hospital after consuming toxic liquor in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered action against those responsible under the stringent Gangster Act.

Prayagraj District Magistrate Bhanu Chandra Goswami said the exact cause of the deaths can be confirmed only after autopsies and sample reports of the liquor.

He said a team of district officials reached the Amilia village after receiving information about the deaths due to consumption of illicit liquor.

Local residents, meanwhile, said that the liquor shop owners already have a number of cases against them for selling smuggled liquor and yet they have around three liquor shops in the area.

"Even after selling spurious liquor, these people have been running three shops in the area, there are so many cases against them," said a local resident Guru Bux.

Those who consumed spurious liquor on Friday night, started falling ill within an hour.

Locals say the victims consumed country liquor from a government-licensed shop last night. Soon after, several people fell ill. The husband-wife duo who ran the liquor shop have been arrested.
