Pune Crime: Fake Gold Used to Secure Loan in Dhayari , Scam Exposed After Default

Pune: A shocking case of taking a loan worth lakhs of rupees by pledging fake gold as collateral has come to light at the Prerna Cooperative Bank branch in Dhayari area. It is alleged that the bank's official gold valuer and two borrowers conspired to defraud the bank of Rs 7 lakh 44 thousand. Nanded City Police has registered a case against the three in this case.

According to the information given by the police, a case has been registered against Laxman Umaji Patil (gold valuer, resident of Ambegaon Pathar), Ganesh Babasaheb Adaling (debtor, resident of Kirkatwadi), Shashikant Sambhaji Godge (debtor, resident of Ambegaon Pathar). On behalf of the bank, Meghnath Sadashiv Bodas (age 63) filed a complaint with the Nanded City Police.

How was the scam exposed?

This incident took place between March 28 and June 25, 2025. On March 28, 2025, Shashikant Godge pledged 76.760 grams of fake gold. The valuer certified it as genuine. A loan of Rs 3.44 lakh was sanctioned on it. On June 18, 2025, Ganesh Adaling pledged 80.500 grams of fake gold. The valuer again confirmed it as genuine and sanctioned a loan of Rs 4 lakh.

In this way, a total loan of Rs 7.44 lakh was taken by pledging 157.260 grams of fake gold. Due to non-repayment of the loan, the bank suspected fraud and the scam was exposed during the investigation. Meanwhile, Nanded City Police has registered a case in this case. Sub-Inspector D. D. Sawant is investigating under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Atul Bhos.
