For the past several days, fear had gripped residents of Kopre village in Junnar taluka due to the frequent movement of a leopard in the surrounding area. Responding to continuous requests from villagers, the Forest Department installed a trap cage within the village limits. On Wednesday, January 21, at around 10 pm, the operation succeeded when a leopard was caught in the cage. The development was confirmed by Forest Range Officer Chaitanya Kamble, bringing an end to the anxiety that had prevailed among locals because of the wild animal’s presence near human habitation.

Soon after receiving information about the capture, a forest team rushed to the spot under the guidance of Forest Range Officer Chaitanya Kamble. Forester Sachin Modhave, Forest Guard Komal Dakhore, and forest worker Subhash Damse immediately reached the location and closely inspected the situation. After assessing the surroundings and taking all necessary precautions, the leopard was safely secured without causing harm to people or the animal. The swift and coordinated response ensured that the situation was brought under control in a safe and systematic manner.

Following the rescue operation, the leopard was shifted to the Manikdoh Leopard Rescue Centre for further treatment and observation. According to the Forest Department’s preliminary assessment, the animal is a female leopard, approximately four years old, and is currently safe. Wildlife experts are closely monitoring her health. Notably, within the last 27 days, the Forest Department has successfully captured four leopards from the same area. This alertness and timely action have provided significant relief to residents, who have praised the department’s efforts and preparedness.
