Pune Traffic News: Major Infrastructure Upgrade to Ease Chakan–Talegaon Congestion; Details Inside
Pune: Public traveling from Chakan to Talegaon often face heavy traffic congestion due to presence of multiple industries. To overcome this problem, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has decided to implement a master plan worth Rs 368 crore across all five phases of the Chakan industrial area. This decision is likely to reduce traffic jams in the industrial belt.
The Chakan and Talegaon MIDC industrial belt is home to numerous prominent companies and industries, resulting in heavy daily commutes for workers and employees, as well as significant goods traffic. Consequently, frequent traffic congestion occurs. To address this, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, with the assistance of traffic experts, has developed a comprehensive traffic improvement plan.
Key Initiatives
- Construction of two stretches of six-lane concrete roads, covering up to 3.5km, on the route connecting the Talegaon industrial area to Chakan
- This project will bypass Navlakh Umbre village near Talegaon and also upgrade sections near the Nashik highway.
- Traffic flow between old Mumbai-Pune and Nashik expected to streamline
According to TOI officials said, Most of the work has already been completed, with the remaining portion scheduled for completion by March. official assured that the construction work is in progress and some part will be completed before monsoon. These upgrades wll improve the onnectivity for daily office commuters and ease travel for those heading toward Nashik. MIDC is also set to concrete the four-lane road from the Volkswagen plant to Alandi Phata, covering a 5.7km stretch and adding asphalt shoulders on both sides.
Phases 1 and 2, aims to concrete nearly 15km of roads, while phase 5 will include a new 4.5km, four-lane stretch. Another official stated that work orders for most projects have been issued, with approximately 70% expected to be completed by June 2027.Chakan, a key automobile manufacturing center, suffers from severe traffic congestion that impacts the daily commute of its 1.5 million workers. Industry representatives cite heavy vehicle traffic from manufacturing units as overwhelming the road infrastructure.
A senior aviation firm official noted the unpredictable commute to and from Chakan, stating that peak hour traffic jams can last over two hours and deter plant visits from foreign delegates.Federation of Chakan Industries general secretary Dilip Batwal, who has addressed the issue with authorities, emphasized the significant loss of man-hours due to traffic delays and highlighted frequent accidents caused by narrow roads and the mix of vehicle types.
As per the News18 reports, the plan is to widen main road and repair work of internal roads, construction of service roads and strengthening of roads connecting national and state highways will be done. In some places, four to six-lane roads will be developed, and separate roads have been planned for heavy vehicles. Furthermore, key intersections will be reconstructed to improve traffic flow.
