Pune Tragedy: Portion of Old Building Collapses in Sadashiv Peth; Trapped Residents Rescued

Pune: A tragic incident took place on Tuesday March 17, 2026 night in Sadashiv peth, where a section of an three-story building collapsed, leaving ten residents trapped inside. Following the incident fire brigade personnel rushed to the scene and, following an hour-long rescue operation, successfully extricated all ten residents. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.

Around midnight, a parapet wall, balcony, and part of the staircase collapsed at 'Charudatta Apartment,' a three-story building in Sadashiv Peth, trapping ten residents, including five women. The fire brigade dispatched a rescue van and personnel from Bhavani Peth, along with a fire tender from Janata Vasahat. Vishrambaug police officers and engineers from the Municipal Corporation's Building Collapse Department also responded. Fire Officer Prashant Gaikar and his team quickly began rescue operations to prevent potential tragedy.

The firefighters successfully rescued Sitabai Bagal (70), Shubham Bagal (23), Vanmala Bagal (45), Sunanda Nirgune (52), Sanket Bagal (23), Suresh Bagal (60), Swapnil Bagal (24), Charushila Kulkarni (52), Rupali Mane (49), and Kamlakar Mane (55). Additionally, a dog named Jenny was also rescued. Fire Officer Prashant Gaikar confirmed that, fortunately, no injuries were sustained by anyone during this incident.
