Thane: 42-Year-Old Businessman Killed by Speeding Car Driven by Minor on Kalyan Ring Road

A 42-year-old businessman was killed after a speeding car, reportedly driven by a 17-year-old boy, rammed into him as he cycled on an incomplete section of Kalyan’s Ring Road. The incident happened on Tuesday (March 24) night. The impact was so severe that the cyclist was flung into the air as the vehicle sped away. The minor driver fled the scene and went into hiding, but was traced later and arrested the next evening.Police have registered an FIR for rash and negligent driving along with non-bailable charges. As per a TOI report, senior police inspector Amarnath Waghmode said that the boy’s mother, in whose name the vehicle is registered, has been named as an accused.

During questioning, the minor told the police that he had informed her before taking the car out. Investigators also flagged a social media post made by the boy shortly after the crash, in which he said that he had had a "small accident" and was afraid that his father would scold him.The victim has been identified as Srinivas Tandle, who owns multiple garment stores in Kalyan. His brother said that he had started riding the bicycle that very day as part of a fitness regimen. The cycle, he said, was borrowed from a friend just two days before accident.CCTV footage going viral online shows Tandle cycling down the road when a car being driven at high speed crashes into him around 8 pm. Tandle is flung into the air due to the impact, while the vehicle speeds away.Passersby alerted the Khadakpada police of the accident and they rushed Tandle to a nearby private hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.The car was later found in the parking lot of the apartment where the accused minor lives. Police said the vehicle had minor damage.
