The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has moved forward with plans to construct a seven-storey working women’s hostel near the Civil Hospital precinct. The proposed facility aims to provide safe and reasonably priced accommodation for more than 150 employed women. While the original plan aimed for a two-year execution period for the facility near the Civil Hospital at Tembhi Naka, design enhancements and additional infrastructure components have extended the deadline. The hostel is now expected to be ready between 2027 and 2028. This adjustment reflects a commitment to building a more comprehensive and resilient facility rather than adhering strictly to earlier timelines.At present, land for the hostel has been formally designated, and funding of approximately ₹50 crore has been secured through combined assistance from central and state sources. Given the enhanced design features, mandatory safety certifications, and expanded utilities, officials are targeting late 2027 or early 2028 for completion. The extension largely stems from the strengthened safety infrastructure and the introduction of a detailed rental and allotment framework.Despite the revised schedule, municipal authorities are exploring interim solutions to address immediate accommodation needs. Vacant civic buildings are reportedly being assessed as temporary transitional housing options for women requiring urgent shelter while the primary structure is under development. This stopgap measure reflects an awareness that housing demands cannot wait until final completion. Through both permanent and provisional arrangements, the corporation aims to ensure that women seeking opportunities in Thane are supported with practical, secure, and affordable living solutions.
