Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A total of 63 students of Service Preparatory Institute (SPI) cleared written examinations conducted by the union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for the admission to National Defence Academy (NDA).

Also, three female students from Nashik-based Girls-SPI qualified the examination. This is the highest number of candidates clearing the written examination from any single institute in the country.

These candidates will appear for the interviews to be organised next month. They will be selected for NDA on the basis of merit list. SPI was established here in 1977 with the aim of preparing boys physically, mentally and academically for admission to the NDA.

A total of 685 youths who were from SPI are serving the country through all three forces. A total of 86 boys of SPI and 27 girls of girls-SPI appeared for the UPSC-NDA written examination recently. Of them, 63 boys and three girls were declared successful.

SPI director Maj Sayed Firasat said that this is the highest ever pass percentage from any single institute in the country. She said that the students are being prepared for the interviews to be held next month.

Former SPI director Lt Col Uday Pol, superintendent Sanjay Mahajan, Mahesh Jagtap, Prakash Kulkarni and others were present at the briefing.

Entrance for admission in 2025

The SPI will publish an advertisement in the first week of November for the entrance test to be conducted for admissions of the new batch of SPI in 2025. Those who have appeared for SSC for the academic year 2024-25 can apply for the admissions. The written test will be held in April 2025 to select candidates for coaching at SPI.
