Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Around 250 students remembered Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar in a unique way by reading for 18 hours in a row in Dr Babasaheb Ambekdar Marathwda University (Bamu) campus on Saturday and Sunday as part of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti Festival.

The university organised a number of programmes in the campus from 7 to 14 April. The students read books in the reading room of the Knowledge Source Center (KRC) of Bamu from Saturday 7 am to 1 am. Pro- Vice Chancellor Dr Walmik Sarwade and KRC director Dr Vaishali Khaparde was present.

About 250 students participated in the activity for eighteen hours continuously. VC Dr Vijay Fulari appreciated the participating students. Dr Satish Padme, Raju Jafre, Lasha Kamde, Dr Sachin Gadekar, Sujit Jagtap, Dr Yogesh Survade, Suraj Lawande and Datta Gawli worked hard for the iniative.

Book exhibition, festival concluded

The Jayanti celebration conclude on April 14. A procession of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar's portrait will be taken out at 8 am on April 14. The procession will reach the auditorium from the university gate at 11 am. Later, a lecture on 'Phule-Ambedkari Thoughts and Women's Issues' by Dr Vandana Mahajan of Mumbai University will be conducted. VC Dr Fulari will preside over the function.

Registrar Dr Amrutkar and Student Development Director Dr Kailash Ambhure have appealed to everyone to attend this ceremony.

Weeklong programmes

The conducted week long programems like ‘Reading Culture’, poetry recitation contest, blood donation camp, Ambedkari Jalsa’ were organised. A books exhibtion is being held at History Museum up to April 14. This is the first time that such a book festival is being held in the university.

A programme of Shahiri by renowned Shahir Nandesh Umap was hosted at university main auditorium on April 13. Superintendent of Police Dr Vinaykumar Rathod was the chief guest.
