Mantooskumar and Kapil were working as bank and credit society recovery agent with a man named as Palve. Both the deceased and the accused were known to each other for five years and were good friends.

“He (Mantooskumar) used to boss around me. Because of this, I used to avoid to meet him. He always threatened to kill me. I used to carry a knife with me due to fear,” the accused told police this.

The accused went to meet the deceased at his flat on the night of October 19 to tender an apology and maintain a good friendship. However, the deceased abused the accused and also tried to beat him up. The accused confessed to stabbing Mantooskumar in a fit of rage.

After the murder, the accused went to his home at Satara. In the early morning, he went to Pune by a private taxi. His father gave wrong information to police that his son (Kapil) had gone to Pune at 11.30 pm. This had created confusion for some time in the investigation.
