Aurangabad, April 8:

The state government has assured the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) of supplying 50,000 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine by Monday. The civic officials are in two minds as the delay in receiving fresh stock could affect the Mega Vaccination Mission as the present stock of vaccines would finish by Sunday evening. As a preventive action, the AMC health officials had already placed a demand for a one lakh vaccine from the state government, a couple of days ago.

It may be noted that there are 9,000 active Coronavirus infected patients in the city and around 50 per cent of them are undergoing treatment in AMC's Covid Care Centres and private hospitals. Adding to the woes, 1,000 patients are being detected daily.

The AMC started the vaccination drive on January 16, this year. It had given the Covid-19 vaccine to healthcare workers, frontline workers, senior citizens, citizens of age 45 years and above etc.

The municipal officer of health (MoH) Dr Neeta Padalkar said, " The AMC had launched MVM in the city for citizens of 45 years age from April 5 and 13,000 citizens had taken the vaccine in the last three days. We had received stock of 60,000 vaccines at the starting of the mission. This stock is expected to finish by Sunday as we will be implementing a jumbo vaccination drive on the holiday. We had placed a demand for 1 lakh vaccine and we will be receiving at least 50,000 vaccines on Monday."
