Aurangabad, April 24 :

Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Kaushal Kendra of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University adopted six villages in the district for the empowerment of backward class people under the Science, Technology and Innovation Hub (SCIH) project.

The Department of Science and Technology of Central Government sanctioned Rs 2.62 crore fund for the initiative. A total of six villages -Chikalthan, Narsinghpur, Deogaon, Lohgaon, Nagad and Andhaner from Kannad tehsil were adopted for the project in 2019. Members of backward classes were training on special skills of electric, electronics, automobile, computer, medicinal herbs. The objective was achieved in Chikathan in March. A total of 272 villagers completed the training and started a micro business in the village.

Medicinal plants were cultivated on four acres of the land first time in Marathwada. The employees appointed for the project stayed in the village until it was completed. Dr Mahendra Shirsath, Dr Bharti Gavli, A S Dhabe, Dr Ramesh Manza, Dr Pravin Yannavar, Dr Kunal Dutta, Vishal Ushir, Amogh Sambre and Hiwarle, along with students, kept visiting the department frequently.

The action plan to study the problems of backward community people was also made. Shivaji College of Kannad also assisted in it. A Technology Van was made available to take science and training to remote areas.

The van will be dedicated to the national service on May 1. Vice-chancellor Dr Pramod Yeole will dedicate the van.
